Ahh, nothing but the finest for Californians — as long as taxpayers are paying.

Sacramento’s KCRA-TV is reporting on the colored tile patterns, textured stall doors and log-cabin and stone facade at Caltrans’ year-old, eastbound and west bound rest stops at Interstate 80 and Gold Run. They cost $1.7 million each. A new rest stop costing $1 million more is being built at Donner Summit on I-80.

Critics charge Caltrans is spending too much on the bathrooms, but Caltrans argues the more expensive material will be easier to clean graffiti off of.
