Part of Chanate Road in Santa Rosa is expected to remain closed until late tonight because of a power pole knocked over in a car crash.

Santa Rosa Police Sgt. Lance Badger said Chanate is closed from Jeremy Court, which is several blocks east of Parker Hill Road, to Montecito Avenue.

He said the pole and power lines are hanging over both lanes of Chanate, and PG&E Co. is working to remove and replace them.

As of 3:40 p.m., Sgt. Phil Brazis said PG&E was having trouble cutting power to the wires, and repairs were on hold until that was done.

The crash occurred when a vehicle driven by a 50-year-old Santa Rosa man struck the pole at 10:51 a.m., Brazis said. The victim was taken to a hospital but his injuries did not appear to be serious, Brazis said.

The circumstances of the crash were under investigation, he said. The man’s name was unavailable.
