Editor’s note: This story has been revised because Sonoma County officials this afternoon announced chip sealing of Old Redwood Highway has been delayed a week.

Crews are suppose to start work Wednesday to prepare Old Redwood Highway from Shiloh Road in Windsor to Santa Rosa for chip sealing.

Workers will spend this week removing crosswalk striping and such and then next week, probably Tuesday, crews will begin the chip sealing, which should take three days, said Rob Silva, roads division manager of the Sonoma County Transportation and Public Works Department.

When the chip sealing begins, Old Redwood Highway will be down to one lane at times, so traffic delays are likely and the department recommends using an alternate route.

Silva said the chip sealing was to start this week but striping removal was delayed.

Instead, chip sealing crews will begin work on Westside Road for the rest of the week, beginning Wednesday, from Sweetwater Springs Road to Healdsburg, Silva said. He said the chip sealing may continue Monday.

In addition, the roads department is working on a culvert under Occidental-Camp Meeker Road at Bohemian Highway, and the road is expected to be closed until Sept. 10.
