DUI/license checkpoints will be held tonight and Saturday night as part of a 18-day campaign by Sonoma County police agencies cracking down on drunken drivers.

Petaluma Police Sgt. Ken Savano, coordinator for the Avoid the 13-Sonoma County DUI Task Force, said in a statement that police would not disclose which cities would have the checkpoints.

As of Thursday, the campaign, which ends Monday, had resulted in 124 drivers being arrested on suspicion of drunken driving. Twenty-five DUI warrant suspects also have been arrested. The campaign also tracks the number of DUI-related injury crashes. So far, five people were hurt in five crashes during the first 14 days of the crackdown.

Last year, 252 people were arrested, and there were eight crashes that injured 10 people.

Funding for the campaign, which requires overtime for officers from the participating police agencies, comes from the state Office of Traffic Safety via the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
