Lakeport police next week will be keeping a look out for drivers speeding, failing to stop for pedestrians in crosswalks and other traffic violations.

Police Lt. Brad Rasmussen said two officers — one of whom will be on overtime — will conduct the special enforcement on a selected day next week that police aren’t revealing in advance.

“These special enforcement operations are being conducted in response to citizen concerns regarding traffic safety as well as the department’s continued efforts to reduce accidents and increase driver and pedestrian safety and awareness,” he said.

“We’re taking an extra effort to make sure we have safe roadways,” Rasmussen said.

He said the department plans to conduct more crackdowns later.
