If you’re driving south on Highway 101, watch out if you’re in the left lane just past the Wilfred Avenue offramp.

There’s a short section of pavement that’s worn away near the K-rail, and if your left front tire drops into it, the pavement will jerk your car left toward the K-rail. It’s scary and dangerous. And when it’s raining or at night, the bad pavement is hard to see. Keep a firm grip on your steering wheel there.

This problem is one of many that have plagued the Rohnert Park-Cotati construction zone, especially potholes.

  2. Tired of bad roads

Can the city be held liable for suspension and windshield damages incurred on my fairly new car. I hit so many potholes on 101 and Stony Point in my daily commute that my suspension now makes a loud rattling noise.

I thought I paid taxes to ensure that the roads I travel on are safe or at least adequate. I am growing tired of having to memorize which lanes have the least amount of pot holes and having to drive accordingly.

I know that spot by memory. I always move a wee bit right to stay out of that long crease of a hole. All this so that cops, buses and motercycles have a private lane!

Another reason to stay out of Rohnert Park and Cotati. How long is the road work going to go on? This road work is why I fly my jet to SF for lunch.

Heading south around that same area, when it’s really wet a wave of water can splash over the divider from the n-bound lane. Blinded me for a second or two. Really scary.

The Roman Empire built roads that have lasted 2000 years. The Romans didn’t use stimulus money. The state can’t build roads that last a decade. What is wrong with this picture?

What’s worse is when motorcyclists insist on driving between cars in this stretch. And when automobile drivers insist that 55 isn’t an appropriately fast enough speed.

Nearly wrecked on that stretch of freeway from splashed water over the barrier – completely blinded in heavy traffic – very dangerous! Also, as a motorcycle rider, hate to think what would happen on a bike…Oh Yeah…I would be dead!

Hey just file a claim and lawsuit. They are definitely on legal notice and will immediately pay all claims/damages.

I remember when we used to be able to have nice things.

The more time we spend blaming other non-wealthy people for our collective problems, the more our basic infrastructure will deteriorate even as we continue to cast off all of our publicly-owned nice things. We need to start collectively pointing the fingers at those who turned our collective wealth into their own privately-held wealth if we want to continue having basic things, let alone the nice things.

Thank you for this warning, I don’t drive that stretch but I know people who do irregularly enough this could catch someone by surprise.

Now that this information is PUBLIC & PUBLISHED, CALTRANS AND OTHER GOVERNMENT AGENCIES need to get off their lazy buttts and fix the hazard.

While we’re at it, CAN ANYONE EXPLAIN WHY WE MUST CONTEND WITH A 55 MPH “DOUBLE FINE ZONE when there hasn’t been any construction on that section for months?

The state is creating its own traffic nightmare in the hopes of forcing voters to vote for extending taxes ??? It ain’t working. I’m voting NO on tax “extensions.” They refuse to fix the problems and force us to drive 55mph… they don’t need any more money.

    I shouldn’t have said what I said.

Wealthy people are as valuable as every other human being. If it weren’t for them, our tax revenue in Sonoma County would be even less than it is. They help us pay for lots of enjoyable things.

I’m sorry. I’m just angry at Cal Trans.

Instead of “pretending” there is room for two lanes in that section, someone with decision powers needs to snap back to reality and make this a single safe lane and then get their butts in gear to do some seriously professional work on that road from now on. That section through Rohnert Park looks like it is being worked on by unskilled amateurs. The people running this project need to face public scrutiny, and possibly shown the door.

I drive a large truck and have had my tires get caught in that crevice. The pull is strong enough to pulla heavy truck to the left. There really isn’t enough room to move to the right to avoid it in heavy traffic so I’m just aware of where it is and hang onto the steering wheel to get ready for the jerk to the left. It really needs to be fixed before someone gets thrown into the divider.
