Marc Adams of Ukiah drives 40,000 to 50,000 miles a year, mostly for his job as a real estate appraiser. So perhaps it’s appropriate that he won the Road Warrior’s Guess the Gas Price Contest, receiving a $50 gas card.

Marc’s guess was $4.269 a gallon and turned out to be the closest of 176 entries to the average price for regular gas for the Santa Rosa metro area, as reported online on May 2 by AAA’s Daily Fuel Gauge Report, which was $4.266. The lowest prediction by a reader was quite hopeful at $3.453 while on the other extreme a reader guessed $6.660

Adams, 44, said rising gas prices is hurting his business.

“Unfortunately, we can’t raise our prices” to make up for the extra cost of gas, so “we just have to absorb the higher price” and that cuts into his income, vhe said.

How did he come up with his guess? Marc said he had looked at the guesses of other Road Warrior readers and decided to be more conservative in his guess.

“Just pure luck,” he said.

Marc said he last filled up his 2007 GMC Sierra pickup on Sunday, paying $4.41 a gallon for diesel. (He also has a car that he uses.)

So the $50 fuel card will help — a bit.

Thanks to Marc and all of the other Road Warrior readers for participating.
