You see it more and more. People driving, listening to their iPods with their ear buds in — a violation of the state vehicle code.

CHP Officer Jon Sloat says it’s legal to drive with ONLY ONE ear bud in, not both.

Not only is it illegal to have both ear buds in while driving but also while bicycling.

Petaluma Police Sgt. Ken Savano said officers are giving out more warnings as the number of people who use ear buds increase.

He said drivers need to be able to hear approaching sirens and other warnings, such as a car honking, and ear buds can prevent that.

The state Vehicle Code section that covers this is 27400. CLICK HERE to read it.
