Napa County’s blood alley is on its way to being fixed.

The state Transportation Commission last week approved more than $130 million to widen Highway 12 to four lanes with a median barrier from Highway 29 to basically Interstate 80.

That stretch also is called Jameson Canyon Road, and it’s been the site of many fatal and serious injury accidents over the years, many head-on. Most of the road is two lanes, and drivers often take the curves faster than they should.

According to the Napa County Transportation and Planning Agency, the project is divided into two: $47.8 million for work from Highway 29 east to about the Napa-Solano County line and $84.4 million for work from about the county line east to Red Top Road, near I-80.

The project is expected to be awarded in March and, according to the Napa Valley Register, completed by 2015.
