Caltrans announced Wednesday completion of two new bridges on Highway 128 between Healdsburg and Calistoga, ending a headache for drivers who used that road.

The Redwood and Maacama Creek bridges, which had been under construction since summer 2010, are wider than the bridges they replaced. Total cost for both new bridges was $7 million.

The best news for drivers is that Caltrans has lifted the one-way traffic control, which some Road Warrior readers have said added 30 minutes to their drive. So it’s back to two-lane traffic.

Some finishing touches will continue into mid-December, Caltrans said.
