Here’s my Christmas wish list for drivers:

1. That everyone who just has to use their cellphone while driving goes hands-free. Buy a Bluetooth or something. Too many times have I seen a driver holding his/her phone and not paying attention.

2. That those who violate the cellphone law get ticketed.

3. That the CHP really crack down on car-pool lane violators, not just a day here and there. If we have to have car-pool lanes, then enforce the law.

4. That everyone gets their blinkers fixed. With the high number of drivers not using their blinkers when changing lanes or turning, I figure their blinkers must be broken. It’s just plain courteous, not to mention the law, to give other drivers some warning of your plans.

5. That drivers and bicyclists play nice. Bicyclists should pay attention to traffic coming up behind them and move over, and drivers should give bicyclists plenty of room when passing them.

6. That local police watch for bicyclist violations as well as driver violations. Too many bicyclists run stop signs and red lights.

7. That pedestrians listen to their Moms and look both ways BEFORE crossing a street, especially those who are texting while walking or listening to their iPods.

8. That the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors continues to find money to keep heavily traveled roads in top shape and makes it a priority to not let rural roads crumble from neglect.

9. That the Highway 101 widening in Rohnert Park goes faster than expected.

10. That if you drive drunk, you get busted.
