Why is the ’92 Honda Accord No. 1?

CHP Sgt. Amir Tabarsi, commander of the Sonoma County Auto Theft Task Force, said it’s because the car is so easy to steal: You can stick a screwdriver or similar instrument into the car’s ignition and it’ll start up.

It’s also a car treasured for its parts by illegal street racers in the East Bay, who quickly burn up engines and need various replacement parts, he said.

Tabarsi said the top three stolen cars typically are in the top three each year recently, although their order may vary.

He said many of the thefts are “crimes of opportunity.”
