Santa Rosa police on Friday plan to hold a DUI/license checkpoint.

The checkpoint, the location of which wasn’t being disclosed, will be from 7 p.m. Friday to 1 a.m. Saturday.

Funding for the operation comes from the state Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Safety Administration.

Dear Press Democrat. would you mind asking this Concerned Officers why the week late on this “DUI” checkpoints? Don’t they know that St Patrick’s Day was National Drink and Drive Day? whats next? looking the other way on Battle of the brews?

How many checkpoints are they allowed to do in a year? This is rediculous. New years, St Pattys, Memorial day, Halloween, i get that. But come on. Who is funding this?

Does the press democrate Believe that posting checkpoints times, dates or even where they are is doing a service to our community by helping illegal and drunk drivers avoid being caught? just ask someone that has lost a family member to a drunk driver or someone who’s mother is paralyzed from the waste down from a drunk driver.

Jeff, if you read the article you would have seen that “Funding for the operation comes from the state Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Safety Administration.” Why do you have a problem with police doing their job? Are you a fan of people driving while under the influence and without licenses? Police and checkpoints make this community a safer place to live, so the more the better.

Heaven forbid they’re out on the streets doing their job, Jeff!

I’m baffled by all the hatred towards DUI checkpoints. People up in arms over cops trying to get drunk and unlicensed, uninsured drivers off the road. People love to complain that the police aren’t doing anything about the problems and then yell to high heaven when the police do the work! It’s incredible.

It seems many people on this and other news websites support drunk drivers and those without licenses/insurance being on the road.

And before the complaining starts: NO, these checkpoints are not a violation of anybody’s rights. Driving is a privilege, not a right. The locations of the checkpoints are posted prior to the checkpoint being set up and there is always an exit route prior to the checkpoint. If you don’t like it, don’t drive through it.

Seriously people, its time to start using common sense and start supporting the police officers who are out there working hard to better the community.

We lost two family members One in Iraq and one in Afghanistan to make sure things like a Checkpoint didn’t interrupt our freedoms here. but thanks to the magic word “Grant” The Police can do anything they want.

Our freedom is disappearing ! Since when is it legal to set check points for license checkpoint ? Hello ? Anybody home ? What is next

Can someone please help me understand why the PressDemocrat announces when the checkpoints are going to be? This does not make sense to me at all!! Don’t you want to catch the people and not warn them? This makes me mad because I was hit by a drunk driver (luckily I came out alive) and feel this is going against the main concept of having the check point. Oh, and what makes it even better is how the PressDemocrat publishes the next day how little they have caught.

It seems that those supporting checkpoints have no problem with “innocent until proven guilty” being reversed.

    Show your papers…prove your innocence.

Show me your papers! You must have papers to travel in zee fatherland! A license doesn’t make you a good driver. Think the lady that plowed off the road in Occidental had a license? I’m betting yes. This is to condition you sheeple into not questioning checkpoints and just giving up your 4th amendment rights.

Newsflash idiots. The cops get more DUIs when they drive around. They scan 1300 people and get 1 dui. Thats not a valid reason to have them. Its a police state. I look forward to the state cutting the budgets of the cycles police. Wait til u know people that get DUIs for being below the legal limit and u will understand. Wait til u u get a dui for no evidence against u. I have one and I was never breath tested or bloodtested. You think only DRUNKS get duis? BS. Its just a moneymaker. They give DUIs to people on bicycles too. Think its all about your safty now. Gimme a break. As far as the funding, who is this office of public safty and where do they generate their $$ from?

What is it with people who don’t want DUI checkpoints?

In the latest figures available, California hit a new low in DUI deaths only 791 people! That’s only two 747 jet loads of people dead. Now if there were actually two 747 crashes in California killing that many people a year, don’t you think the public would be up in arms demanding action? Sure they would. And that’s why we have DUI check-points and extra cops on nights and weekend.

    Still don’t like DUI check-points?

OK, I have this 747 see, and we put you in it and then………

  13. Jeff again

The police get more drunk drivers when they are driving around. Are u a fan of wasting taxpayer money to have 10 cops paid overtime to get 1 dui? And have everyone on the road stopped? What i m against is stopping everyone on the road. Im against police taking advantage of people voting for checkpoints. Funny, i dont remember voting to let the state do this.

People are getting duis for being under the limit, being at the limit. Go out to dinner. Have 1 drink, not wait an hour before u drive and u are in the red. Come on. Ever try to catch a cab in sonoma county? Prob not. 700 places serving alcohol and it takes an hr to get a cab at night. Where do u leave your car? They will tow your car downtown or u will get a ticket. Sure sounds like alot of moneymakers doesnt it?

How many tourists are u ok with driving drunk? Because the county turns a blind eye to them every day. Because its a moneymaker. Doesnt sound like they re worried about your safety then huh? Think about it.

No wonder Jeff is complaining… he gets DUIs. Petty name-calling from the DUI guy.
