Santa Rosa police plan a DUI/license checkpoint on Saturday night.
As usual, police aren’t saying where the checkpoint will be, but the hours will be 7 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Sgt. Lance Badger said officers may move the checkpoint during the night to a different location depending upon how busy the operation is.
The enforcement is funded through a grant from the state Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administation.

This is the biggest scam our so called public safety experts have yet devised. Nothing but a cash cow for a few cops at our expense. Most people stopped are just ordinary citiizens trying to go about their business. This is not acceptable in the land of the free and the home of the brave. This is a police state.

Maybe most being stopped are ordinary citizens. Many being stopped will be drunken or unlicenced/uninsured scum that deserve to go to jail. I dont mind being stopped–happily Im ordinary!

Will this be held anywhere near any actual drinking establishment, or just tossed into one of our predominantly Latino areas again?
Also, the bars let out at 2. Why not hold the checkpoints past the 1am mark?

this is nothing short of violation of basic civil rights…yet cops get away with it because of a very vocal MADD who want to show their rage over the crimes of a few drunken idiots…instead of addressing the real problem of alcohol abuse that affects over 50% of the population and is a serious medical issue…we need to stop putting a bandage on a medical problem and making it a criminal issue…totally the wrong approach… we need to seriously deal with alcohol abuse and stop wasting huge sums of money on public safety..
