Santa Rosa motorcycle police officers this coming week will monitor one of the city’s most collision-prone intersections — Sonoma Avenue at Farmers Lane, which last year was tied for fifth worst with 9 collisions.
As part of a weekly, Monday through Sunday, special enforcement program, Officer Jeff Adams says officers particularly will be looking for drivers not wearing seat belts, who are illegally using cellphones, are speeding, running red lights or committing lane violations.
Each week, the officers pick one of the city’s top 25 collision-troubled intersections to monitor.

Waste of money? No way…..get the zombie, cell-phoning drivers off the road (if only for the few minutes it takes to write a citation). LOL. The only thing worse than having motorcycle cops enforcing traffic laws is…..not having them.

Terrific point you make, Wickwacker…thank god we have the cops when we need them.
However, what I see as a dangerous situation: the lack of clearly defined lanes on eastbound Hwy 12 approaching Farmers Lane and especially at the stoplight.
There are not enough arrows earlier along the route and those that are there seriously need repainting. Too many last minute lane changes take place & drivers make the mistake of using the straight ahead lane to make a left turn onto Farmers Lane. There IS often NO room to safely move back into northbound lane. I’ve seen multiple near misses…anything you can do Road Warrior???

I live near this interesection and have gotten nearly hit by drivers running red lights. This is a very dangerous intersection for both drivers and pedestrians so put our tax dollars to work, thank you very much.
