NOTE: This report has been updated to reflect that the closure initially planned for Wednesday was delayed until Thursday.

Petaluma’s main east-west street will be partially closed this week and next week because construction crews are replacing a water main.

City officials said westbound East Washington Street will be blocked between Ellis and Payran streets Thursday, Friday, Monday and Tuesday. Eastbound lanes will remain open.

The similar closure will be in effect 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Police suggest westbound drivers take  this detour: North on Ellis Street to west on Madison Street to south on Payran Street, which brings you back to East Washington.

Last week’s closure fouled traffic, so you can expect plenty of congestion this time too.
