Santa Rosa police will hold a DUI/license checkpoint on Friday night — the 11th in about the past year.
As in the past, police wouldn’t say where the checkpoint will be. But they did say it would be 7 p.m. Friday to 1 a.m. Saturday.
The checkpoint is funded by a grant from the state Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Friday’s checkpoint is the 11th since the grant was issued last October.

These checkpoints are expensive and labor intensive. The May 25, 2012 checkpoint in Rohnert Park used the following personnel:
4 Police Sergeants
21 Police Officers (incl. 10 motorcycle units)
3 Dispatchers
8 Community service officers/support personnel
1 Volunteer
Most of these folks are on overtime.
The grant money used to fund these is not free. It comes in part from our taxes.

should have DUI check points on both sides of any road way . lets hope that the courts would do something to help out . For the ones with two or more DUIs make the go to weekly AA meetings for life and if you just got another DUI charge the courts should make them do a weekly drug test for five years also . After all the police bust the drunks and thecourts let them go give a hand to the police department .
