If you plan to cross the Mayacamas this week, plan your route carefully, suggests reader Brian Maloney. A bridge replacement project on Porter Creek road is creating quite a snarl. Another project destined to irritate commuters is ramping up on Arnold Drive and Aqua Caliente, but is still in the early stages.

Question: Haven’t seen anything about this yet in the news, but they’re replacing the bridge at Porter Creek and Franz Valley Road. Any news on detours or timing with the new 45- to 60-minute delays on this heavy traffic route between Santa Rosa and Napa and Lake Counties? — Brian Maloney

Answer: The contractor replacing that bridge is drilling piles with a drill rig that needs to sit on the bridge, reports Rob Silva, Sonoma County’s road department operations manager. Because of its size, the road will be closed up to 30 minutes at a time while drilling is going on. Work hours are 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday through Friday.

“One-way traffic  controls will be in place when traffic is cleared, but up to 45-minute delays may be expected,” Silva says. He suggests alternate routes of  Riebli Road to the west and Calistoga Road to the east.

Here’s where other Sonoma County road crews will be this week:

In Sonoma, the Arnold Drive/Agua Caliente Road roundabout project. Starting this week, the contractor is locating and verifying underground utility locations from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., with minor delays Monday through Friday.

Road Maintenance crews also will be doing grinding and paving work through Thursday on Arnold Drive, starting south of the Sonoma Developmental Center and continuing to Agua Caliente Road. Work hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, with one-lane traffic causing some delays.

In Santa Rosa, layout begins this week for a contract overlay project on Calistoga Road, with posted work hours of 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Only minor delays are expected with shoulder closures and short duration traffic stoppages.

In Cotati/Rohnert Park, the Traffic Paint and Sign crew will be replacing turn lanes, pedestrian crossings, center line and fog line paint and pavement markers this week on Stony Point Road from the intersection of Rohnert Park Expressway south to about Lowell Avenue. Traffic controls will cause minor delays Monday through Thursday.

Crews from Guerneville and Healdsburg begin installing seasonal summer crossings at Vacation Beach west of Guerneville and on Washington School Road in Asti.

Cal Fire crews, if available, are scheduled to assist with roadside brush and tree limb removal on Tuesday and Wednesday along Bodega Hwy. west of Sebastopol and Mountain Home Ranch Road off Petrified Forest Road.
