Caltrans will resume work Wednesday on the highway bridges over the Petaluma River after a request to halt the project was denied by a federal judge. Environmental groups sued in May, saying that netting designed to keep migratory cliff swallows away from the $130 million bridge project entangled and killed dozens of birds. Read Matt Brown’s story about the ruling HERE. Construction details will follow.

Caltrans also has plans to close the northbound U.S. 101 on-ramp from South Petaluma Boulevard on Monday, July 8, while temporary northbound on- and off-ramps are being built. The work will take about two months, making way for construction of a new highway interchange. Travel will be detoured north on Petaluma Boulevard South to the U.S. 101/State Route 116 interchange.

Traffic delays will continue on Porter Creek Road at the Porter Creek bridge replacement project. The contractor will be drilling for the new bridge footing 7 am to 7 pm daily through Wednesday, with road closures up to 30 minutes and delays between 45 – 60 minutes. No work will be done Thursday and Friday.

Paving will continue on Lakeville Road through Wednesday, with work done 7 a.m.-5 p.m. on side streets, driveway approaches and shoulder backing. Lane closures are possible.

On Arnold Drive at Agua Caliente Road, the contractor will install storm drains and do minor grading work 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Wednesday, with intermittent 5 minute traffic delays.

Healdsburg crews continue working at the Asti summer crossing on Washington School Road, which remains closed. They will start installing signs on Wednesday.

The Bridge crew will replace a culvert this week on East Avenue in Camp Meeker. Traffic will be detoured as the road will be closed during excavation.

Cal Fire crews will be assisting with roadside brushing today and Wednesday on Guerneville Road west of the Laguna to Vine Hill Road, and on Occidental Road between S.H. 116 and Atascadero Creek.
