Contractors delivered four pre-cast girders this week for the Porter Creek Bridge, now under construction northeast of Santa Rosa. Rolling road closures were required to move them from Highway 101 to Porter Creek Road, and bridge engineer Cindy Rader was there to document the process.
Tom O’Kane, deputy director of Sonoma County’s Transportation and Public Works Department, reports that the project is moving along quickly. Bridge construction is expected to be finished in May or June 2014.
“It was quite an impressive event transporting them from U.S. 101 to the construction site on Tuesday night and setting them with two cranes last night,” he said. “This will allow for the placement of the deck for the two outside lanes where traffic will be routed while the inside lanes are constructed.”
