Caltrans begins night work on Hwy. 121 between Sonoma Creek and the Napa County line.

Sonoma

On Monday, Sept. 23, Caltrans will begin a roadway repair project on Highway 121, from the Sonoma Creek Bridge to the Napa County line, with flaggers and one-way traffic control 7 p.m.-6 a.m. Monday through Friday. The work will continue for about one month while the contractor repairs the roadway, removes old pavement and repaves. Construction activities will be completed at night, and residents may experience increased noise as the contractor works through the area. For information about Caltrans projects in Sonoma County, visit dot.ca.gov/dist4.

The Arnold Drive roundabout in Agua Caliente was opened to traffic on Sept. 18, although the project remains under construction. Temporary striping has been painted, although larger trucks  are having a hard time staying within the lines. Soon the concrete contractor will be forming the interior structures of the roundabout, and larger trucks will have a problem driving around the form boards. Larger trucks are advised to use alternates routes until construction is finished. Center island construction continues 7 a.m.-5 p.m. this week.

Doran Regional Park will be closed for 11 days ibetween Oct. 14 and 24 while the main road through the park is repaved. A new surface will be applied to Doran Park-Doran Beach Road from Highway 1 to the Jetty Day Use Area at the park’s west end. Nearly 2 miles of pavement will be removed and replaced with new asphalt, striping and markers.

By closing the park, crews will be able to work more efficiently and complete the project faster than if repairs were done during public hours. Ghilotti Construction of Santa Rosa was selected to do the work at a cost of $587,000. Improving the park road has been a priority for Regional Parks for some time and was made possible when the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors last year included Doran in a funding plan for various county road repairs. Doran Park was among a dozen road projects selected because of their importance to the local economy.

The park is scheduled to reopen Friday, Oct. 25. For more information, visit the Doran Park page at SonomaCountyParks.org or call Regional Parks at 565-2041.
