Expect a flurry of road news during the next few weeks as Rohnert Park works its way through the punch list items leading up to the Nov. 5 coming out party for the new Graton Casino. Combine them with a year-long sewer project east of Highway 101 that also will start in November, and you’ve got major disruption.

Here’s what to expect this week. We’ll keep you posted as new plans emerge.

Two new traffic signals were activated Tuesday at the intersections of Business Park Drive and Redwood Drive, and Business Park Drive and Casino Drive East. They should help traffic get into and out of the industrial parks south of the new casino.

On- and off-ramps at Rohnert Park Expressway and Highway 101 will be closed Wednesday through Friday, Oct. 16-18, as the expressway is paved.  Because the work has to be done during the warm hours of the day, crews will be working between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the following locations:

–Northbound U.S. 101 off-ramp to Rohnert Park Expressway

–Rohnert Park Expressway diagonal on-ramp to northbound U.S. 101 (Park and Ride will be accessible)

–Rohnert Park Expressway loop on-ramp to northbound U.S. 101

–Rohnert Park Expressway diagonal on-ramp to southbound U.S. 101

–Rohnert Park Expressway loop on-ramp to southbound U.S. 101

–Southbound U.S. 101 off-ramp to Rohnert Park Expressway

–Alternating lanes on eastbound and westbound Rohnert Park Expressway over U.S. 101, between Redwood and Commerce

In addition, the northbound off-ramp to Rohnert Park Expressway will be closed 10 p.m.-5 p.m. all three days.

Eastside sewer replacement

Rohnert Park’s year-long sewer trunk line replacement will start in early November, a $13 million project paid for by the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria, which owns the new casino. Read  Jeremy Hay’s story in today’s Press Democrat.

New sewer lines will add capacity, spurring housing and commercial development and, city officials hope, providing the city with an economic boost and generating development fees to pay for more infrastructure improvements.

Between Oct. 28 and Nov. 11, signage and traffic diversions will go into place as work starts near Avram Avenue and Commerce Boulevard.

Once the actual work begins, Ghilotti Construction Co. crews will spend the next year working their way east from the intersection of Commerce and Avram to the intersection of East Cotati Avenue and Snyder Lane, where it will tie into the existing sewer system.

Work hours will be 8 a.m.-5 p.m. The project will include utility construction and pavement restoration. Get updated information about the project at www.rpcity.org or call the Project Hotline at 540-9955.
