Northbound Interstate 280 from the Highway 101/I-280 interchange to downtown San Francisco will remain closed through the Fourth of July weekend, Caltrans said. The long closure is necessary to replace a bridge hinge on northbound I-280 between Cesar Chavez Street and 24th Street. An additional closure is planned for the Labor Day holiday weekend.

Detour: Northbound Interstate 280 traffic will detour to Highway 101. When traveling during the closure, Caltrans advised motorists to call 511 or check with 511.org and to use public transportation such as BART, Caltrain, MUNI, and SamTrans.

The full northbound closure began at 9 p.m. on Wednesday and will end at 5 a.m. Monday morning.

Northbound on-ramp closures include:
• Alemany Boulevard on-ramp
• U.S. 101 connector to northbound Interstate 280
• Indiana Street/25th Street on-ramp
• 18th Street on-ramp

Southbound I-280 will remain open during the northbound closure.
