Three government agencies are getting a total of 31 new electric vehicles with a $2.8 million grant from the Metropolitan Transportation Commission. The Sonoma County Water Agency took delivery of its five all-electric Ford Focuses last week. Santa Rosa is getting four and Sonoma County will receive 22.

The MTC grant allowed 10 Bay Area agencies to buy 90 electric vehicles, the largest government purchase of electric cars in the nation.

The vehicles are expected to save more than $500,000 in fuel costs and about 2 million pounds of carbon dioxide emissions over five years.
