@Jeff It is illegal for a motorcycle to park on the sidewalk. Do the police enforce it…. sometimes i think. you take a chance of getting a ticket for it

Safer to ride on the street then a side-walk…are you kidding me? Have you seen what people are doing in their vehicles these days? Texting, talking on a cell, rocki’n’ out to loud music, taking pics, cutting off other drivers because they are going to slow, woofing down a bowl of cereal, applying makeup, slapping their kids, watching cd’s, dang, for all its worth, I’ll take the sidewalk any day of the week over the ‘street’. At least there I do not have to worry too much about getting run over from behind…safer on the street…geez!

If cyclists want to use the roads, they should be treated like any other vehicle on the road. Make them put a license plate on their bike, have headlights, brake lights, and turn signals like any other vehicle on the road. Require them to have insurance and pay a road tax (alternative to gas taxes)

They want to have access like a motor vehicle, treat them as such.

There was a time when the sidewalk was a relatively safe haven for pedestrians. Now they have to share it with moving vehicles.

Walk your bike on the sidewalk. It’s a sideWALK, not a sideRIDE. Also, motorcycles should not be allowed to park on the sidewalk. That’s what a parking lot is for. It’s not rocket science. Well, maybe to some it is.

I am always very late and have a lot of things to do. Slow drivers make texting very difficult while driving because I have to watch where I am going. Why can’t everyone behave exactly as I would like? How rude of them!

All this talk by bike lovers about their problems with cars; should get their house clean first. I walk regularly at Spring Lake. Bike riders passing walkers closely very rarely announce they are passing (ie. “on your left”). Also even when there is plenty of room they will pass with in 3 or 4 inches of walkers. And they totally ignore the signs that advise walkers have the right of way.

I typically don’t use turn signals because people antagonize you for it (i.e. speeding up to stop you from changing lanes). Just yesterday someone honked at me when I tried to change lanes in stop and go traffic. (Of course I have zero tolerance for this behavior nowadays and continued anyway, flipped him off, and dared him to rear end me. He didn’t.)

At stop signs, I don’t use turn signals if I’m making a left turn and an oncoming car is going straight. With a turn signal, I wave them through only for them to wave me through, and then we both waste time figuring out who is actually going to start moving. Without a turn signal, they just go like they’re supposed to.

So, ironically, I’ve found turn signals break the flow of traffic due to both too much courtesy and not enough courtesy. I have had no issues since I stopped using them.

Why do you assume I don’t? I do! And I do because ‘I’ value my life and sanity enough to move over and let these entitled fools and law breakers get caught or kill themselves.

My point is that with the increase in our population, and the fact that public transportation has cut back so many routes, and increased its fares, it has become imperative that we make safer roads for all to use, and that we increase the fines and watch more closely those who violate and endanger others and bring them to justice so they stop jeopardizing the lives of others.

One last comment, GET OFF THE CELL PHONES PEOPLE!

My dogs Poochie and Porkchop loves travelling with me. I always bring them with me when I go malling, It kinda distract me seeing them running and crawling to the driver’s seat, while I’m driving. This car dog friendly cars are a must. By the way I’m driving a toyota Altis.

@ Treeamigo – It’s the law here too just no one enforces it. Much more revenue in HOV violations and speeding and much easier to win the battle in court.

@ G – It not only has nothing to do with being on time, most people are just plan impatient or like peg said they like to drive fast. Is it really a big deal for you to pull over to let them pass? Actually the Road Warrior had a great article about this exact thing last week, the article had over 50 comments… pretty hot topic, maybe Caltrans and the CHP should take note.
