Trying to make sense out of getting around

Traffic delays likely this week on Highway 128

Caltrans this week will be grinding “distressed sections” of Highway 128 in the Geyserville area and then repaving them. The work will be 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. along various stretches, and one-way traffic control will be in effect, so expect some traffic delays. On Monday and Tuesday, construction crews will work just east of the Highway 101-Highway 128 junction. On Wednesday and Thursday, they move on to the stretch of 128 around River Rock Casino. On Friday, they finish… Read More »

Update on Highway 101 project

If you’re tired of the uneven pavement on Highway 101 between Rohnert Park and Petaluma, there’s light at the end of the tunnel. Caltrans spokesman Robert Haus says the final paving project is set to start June 4 and will take about four to six weeks to complete. That’s weather permitting. A streak of rain or unusually cold weather could pushed that back a bit. As for the last segments of the Wilfred Avenue and Commerce Boulevard overpasses in Rohnert… Read More »

Highway 101 lane closures start Thursday

Caltrans says it’ll close a southbound lane of Highway 101 between Healdsburg and Windsor for several upcoming nights to allow emergency repairs to concrete sections of the road. The closures start Thursday night and will affect the right southbound lane from Old Redwood Highway in Healdsburg to the downtown Windsor offramp. This project has been scheduled twice in the past month and canceled within hours both times. Caltrans hasn’t explained why and hasn’t responded to our inquiries asking why. The… Read More »

Final part of Mendocino/Lake paving project gets under way

The Mendocino County leg of a Caltrans repaving project is under way. Work began Monday on a nearly 10.5-mile stretch of Highway 175  from Highway 101 in Hopland to just past the Lake County line, and it’ll cause traffic delays of up to 15 minutes for drivers. The work will be 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and is expected to last into the summer, Caltrans spokesman Phil Frisbie Jr. said. The $17.6 million project began last summer in Lake… Read More »

Rebuilding of 101/Airport Blvd. interchange may start this fall

Reconstruction of the Airport Boulevard interchange on Highway 101 north of Santa Rosa could begin this fall after the state Transportation Commission on Friday approved $24.1 million for the project. Once finished, expected in fall 2014, the project will expand the Airport Boulevard interchange to a diamond shape, with much longer, wider and sweeping on- and offramps. The bigger interchange will abut the one just to the south at Fulton Road, and that one will be eliminated for safety reasons,… Read More »

Highway 101 lane closure canceled — again

For the second time in a week, Caltrans has announced a repair project for Highway 101 between Healdsburg and Windsor and then within a few hours canceled it. On Thursday morning, Caltrans said it would close the right southbound lane for several upcoming nights to allow emergency repairs to concrete sections of the road. Then on Thursday afternoon, Caltrans announced it again had to postpone the work. Last Thursday, Caltrans went through the same drill. Caltrans spokesman Robert Haus said… Read More »

10 mattresses and more picked up along North Coast highways

The North Coast’s highways are a bit cleaner these days, especially Highway 53 in Lake County. The highway is only about 7.5 miles long, from Lower Lake to Clearlake Oaks. But Caltrans considers it the dirtiest highway in Lake and Mendocino counties. So last Thursday, which was designated Caltrans’ statewide Annual Litter Day, it probably came as no surprise to the maintenance crews who went out to pick up litter and other garbage along 53 to discover 10 mattresses along… Read More »

Mailbag: Missing speed limit. Traffic cams. 12/121 flooding

Here’s a question from a reader: Redwood Drive is the frontage road west of Highway 101 in Rohnert Park.  If you head north onto Redwood Drive from Business Park Drive, next to The Press Democrat facility, there is not a speed limit sign until just before Wilfred.  There used to be a sign previous to the 101 construction, but it has gone missing for a year or more. This has affected some of our industrial park customers since the police… Read More »

Highway 101 lane closure postponed

Caltrans has postponed its plan to close a southbound lane of Highway 101 between Healdsburg and Windsor for several nights to allow emergency repairs to concrete sections of the road. The closures were to have started Thursday night and would have affected the right southbound lane from Old Redwood Highway in Healdsburg to the downtown Windsor offramp. Caltrans spokesman Robert Haus said in a statement Thursday afternoon it wasn’t known yet when the work would proceed. ————– Follow the Road… Read More »

Rohnert Park road to be closed

Caltrans plans to shut Commerce Boulevard under Highway 101 in Rohnert Park on Friday night. The closure will be 8 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday to allow construction crews to remove falsework from a new overpass built over Commerce. The overpass is part of Caltrans’ project to widen Highway 101 to six lanes through Rohnert Park. Drivers can get across Highway 101 by using Rohnert Park Expressway to the south. ———— Follow the Road Warrior on Twitter via @PDRoadWarrior
