Mailbag: What’s that strip of vacant land alongside Hoen?

I have been in Santa Rosa for a few years and have wondered about the strip of apple orchard that runs east-west through the east side of town.  Looking at Google Maps, it appears to be the completion of Highway 12 that never was.  It begins where Highway 12 dead ends at Farmer’s Lane, crosses Summerfield, and disappears around Spring Lake. Was there a plan to extend the road all the way to Spring Lake?  If so, why wasn’t it completed? … Read More »

Work starts on Airport Blvd./101 interchange reconstruction

Caltrans on Wednesday is scheduled to begin cutting down trees and bushes at the Highway 101 interchange at Airport Boulevard north of Santa Rosa as a step toward rebuilding that interchange. The work isn’t expected to cause any lanes on Highway 101 or Airport to be closed. The major job of actually redoing the interchange at a cost of $34.5 million is due to start this spring. Montgomery Village intersection targeted by police

Santa Rosa motorcycle police officers this coming week will monitor one of the city’s most collision-prone intersections — Farmers Lane at Montgomery Drive, which last year was tied for seventh worst with seven collisions. Caltrans repaving part of Highway 12 in Santa Rosa

Caltrans has started a night paving project on Highway 12 in Santa Rosa that will last through about the end of the month. The work is being done from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Friday from Farmers Lane to Mission Boulevard. Crews are grinding down the pavement this week and next week they’ll do the paving using a special technique — “bonding wearing course” — designed to extend the life of the existing pavement by including a layer… Read More »

Construction project on Montgomery Drive

What construction project is planned for Montgomery Drive in Santa Rosa? Any day now, crews are to begin replacing sewer and water lines on the street between Farmers Lane and Talbot Avenue, said Jesus McKeag, assistant engineer for the city who is manager of the project.
