Mailbag: Status report on Farmers Lane extension

Like so many other things, Santa Rosa’s traffic relief comes in small bites when permits have been issued and money is available, leaving some projects lined up behind those with higher priority. That’s the case with construction designed to relieve pressure at the Hearn Avenue/101 interchange and at Farmers Lane/Highway 12. Question: I heard that the Hearn Avenue Interchange project has been held up because of a Farmer’s Lane extension/Yolanda Ave. overpass. This would move the traffic slightly south from the… Read More »

Updated: Construction hot spots in Sonoma County

Updated to include details about the sewer replacement work at Montgomery Drive and Farmers Lane in Santa Rosa.  Life slows down in Sonoma County after the weekend excitement of the bicycle race and Rose Parade in Santa Rosa, and American Graffiti cruise in Petaluma. Similarly, road projects continue with little change, a lull before the June 3 start of another Highway 101 improvement project north of Santa Rosa. Santa Rosa police identify their targeted intersection of the week, and Rob… Read More »

Mailbag: What’s that strip of vacant land alongside Hoen?

I have been in Santa Rosa for a few years and have wondered about the strip of apple orchard that runs east-west through the east side of town.  Looking at Google Maps, it appears to be the completion of Highway 12 that never was.  It begins where Highway 12 dead ends at Farmer’s Lane, crosses Summerfield, and disappears around Spring Lake. Was there a plan to extend the road all the way to Spring Lake?  If so, why wasn’t it completed? … Read More »

Work starts on Airport Blvd./101 interchange reconstruction

Caltrans on Wednesday is scheduled to begin cutting down trees and bushes at the Highway 101 interchange at Airport Boulevard north of Santa Rosa as a step toward rebuilding that interchange. The work isn’t expected to cause any lanes on Highway 101 or Airport to be closed. The major job of actually redoing the interchange at a cost of $34.5 million is due to start this spring. Once completed in fall 2014, the project will expand the Airport Boulevard interchange… Read More »

Montgomery Village intersection targeted by police

Santa Rosa motorcycle police officers this coming week will monitor one of the city’s most collision-prone intersections — Farmers Lane at Montgomery Drive, which last year was tied for seventh worst with seven collisions. As part of a weekly, Monday through Sunday, special enforcement program, Officer Jeff Adams says officers particularly will be looking for drivers not wearing seat belts, who are illegally using cellphones, are speeding, running red lights or committing lane violations. Each week, the officers pick one… Read More »

SRPD targeting Montgomery Village intersection

Santa Rosa motorcycle police officers this coming week will monitor one of the city’s most collision-prone intersections — Sonoma Avenue at Farmers Lane, which last year was tied for fifth worst with 9 collisions.

Caltrans repaving part of Highway 12 in Santa Rosa

Caltrans has started a night paving project on Highway 12 in Santa Rosa that will last through about the end of the month. The work is being done from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Friday from Farmers Lane to Mission Boulevard. Crews are grinding down the pavement this week and next week they’ll do the paving using a special technique — “bonding wearing course” — designed to extend the life of the existing pavement by including a layer… Read More »
