Santa Rosa’s 25 dangerous intersections

Planning to drive through the intersection of Stony Point and Sebastopol roads in Santa Rosa? Better be careful. It again ranks No. 1 in the city for highest number of reported collisions. The Roseland-area intersection racked up 16 collisions last year, twice that of 2011 when it tied for sixth place but down from 20 in 2010 and 19 in 2009 when it ranked No. 1 for both years. 2011′s No. 1 — Highway 12 at Mission Boulevard — fell… Read More »

Mailbag: More complaints about Santa Rosa intersections; Petaluma project

Our previous Mailbag column generated comments and questions from readers: From Tim: I have been doing a lot of driving in the Coddingtown area as of late and noticed an area of concern: Can you have someone look into the intersection of Cleveland Ave. & Guerneville Road? Specifically, going eastbound on Guerneville and turning north onto Cleveland the light stays green for LESS than 10 seconds. The dangerous part is most drivers are not aware of this, and I witnessed… Read More »

Mailbag: Is Porter Creek Road sinking? Sonoma Avenue lanes

Here’s a question from a reader: I drive daily from Graton to St. Helena via Mark West Springs Road/Porter Creek Road and am writing in hopes you will bring additional attention to a serious road hazard on Porter Creek Road.  I contacted County Roads of Sonoma County and reported this to them. Just west of Camp Newman, heading west toward Santa Rosa where the curve is in the road at the camp and just past the top of the rise,… Read More »

More drivers trying to beat the red light

I’ve heard people joke that a green light means go, a yellow light means go faster and a red light means stop. But I don’t think it’s a joke any longer: More people seem to be trying to beat red lights and they’re stepping on the gas when the light turns yellow. Santa Rosa Police Sgt. Rich Celli says he hasn’t seen that as a general trend, although he does at times have officers stake out specific intersections where it’s… Read More »

Sound off: Readers’ gripes, comments

ARE THESE BICYCLISTS RIDING LEGALLY? I am sending you this letter and attachment in the hope that you will help educate the biking community to their responsibilities under the law. I  understand and support the individual bicycler’s right to share the road with me. But I do expect that each bicyclist follow the laws that govern their use of the roads. A prime example of what gives bicyclists a bad reputation happened to me Saturday while driving from Occidental to… Read More »
