Trying to make sense out of getting around

CHP watching traffic at Forestville School

If you drive by Forestville School on Highway 116, watch out for extra traffic and pedestrians. If you don’t, the CHP will be there to ensure you do. There’s construction starting at the school, and that’s changing how many students get to school. A sidewalk along 116 from Covey Road to the school will be closed, and that’s expected to mean more congestion in front of the school in the morning and afternoons. The CHP, starting Tuesday, plans to assign… Read More »

Mailbag: Hwy. 116 traffic light coming soon

Here’s a question from a Road Warrior reader: I wonder if you can get insight as to when the traffic lights are going to be activated at the intersection of Vine Hill at 116. As a resident and daily user of that stretch, it’s become even more perilous than before with the recent widening of the road, the various cones, etc. The lay of the road, the sun exposure makes crossing it even in former times tricky but I’ve seen… Read More »

Mailbag: Missing speed sign replaced

Here’s a question from a Road Warrior reader; I’m curious as to what happened to the 45 MPH speed limit signs on Mirabel Rd. in Forestville. From Hwy. 116 there used to be at least 2 45 MPH signs before the 35 MPH sign that is situated near the bottom of the hill just before Speers Market. That whole stretch of Mirabel has no speed limit signs at all on either side of the road. Valerie The answer comes from… Read More »

Some Road Warrior readers wondered if the CHP and Caltrans could have done more to alleviate the massive congestion that the closure caused. “It would have been very helpful to start diverting traffic off in Petaluma or Penngrove. It was ridiculous that there were no CHP to direct traffic so it continued to… Read More »

Possible traffic delays on Sonoma County roads

The Sonoma County Department of Transportation and Public Works and CHP say a few road projects around the county could cause traffic delays this week: –Bennett Valley Road for brush cutting. –Bloomfield Road, from Valley Ford to Canfield roads, for ditching work, from today through Aug. 12. –Browns Lane, from Lakeville Highway to South Ely Road, is closed because of a sewer main failure that occurred Saturday. –Geysers Road for some paving repairs. –Mueller and Vine Hill roads at Highway… Read More »
