Trying to make sense out of getting around

Mailbag: Forestville roundabout and the 1-lane Laughlin Bridge

Question: Does Forestville REALLY need an expensive roundabout at Hwy. 116 and Mirabel Road? Maybe we should use the money for schools or pothole repair instead and wait for the signal/roundabout decision until the Highway 116 bypass is in the works. — Jim S. Answer: It ain’t gonna happen. This is the first phase of the bypass, and it is already in the works. Because  money for this project comes from the Measure M tax approved by voters in 2004, it… Read More »

Updated: Car commercial snarls Highway 116

Reader Lisa Davis wrote in this morning about an unsual tie-up on Highway 116 west of Monte Rio. She was stuck in traffic because a car commercial was being filmed. She described the scene as “A LOT of car carrier trailers, new cars with car covers, cameras, CHP stopping traffic. Expect delays here, out to the coast.” Guerneville Towns Correspondent Stephen Gross was on the road this morning and had this to say about 11:15 a.m.: “Yes it is true.… Read More »

Mailbag: Dirt, concrete pile along 101; free air/water at gas stations; 116 hazard

Questions from our readers: What’s up with the dirt/concrete pile along 101? What is all the construction going on east of Highway 101 just south of Petaluma?  It’s been a curiosity for a couple of weeks now, and has gotten to the point where it’s now causing traffic delays in the morning.  The work isn’t technically on the freeway.  It’s just east of it, a hundred yards or so off the side of the road.  They’ve put a long orange… Read More »

Sound Off: Sebastopol mess, danger at 116/Occidental Road

Here are comments by Road Warrior readers: Traffic mess in Sebastopol Thanks for your forum to allow us to express concerns about things that our traffic people are doing (or not doing) to our traffic flows.  I apologize in advance if this sounds more brash than it should, but I am very frustrated with two things. First:  During construction recently at The Barlow (the project in Sebastopol at Highway 12 and Morris — already a highly sensitive chokepoint)) street work… Read More »

Weekend traffic alert

Here’s a couple of weekend events that could affect traffic: –The Gopro Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma starts Friday and goes through Sunday at the Sears Point racetrack. The CHP doesn’t expect much of a problem on Friday and Saturday, but Napa Officer Jake Ramos warns congestion is expected on Highway 37 Sunday morning before the race starts and Sunday afternoon after it ends. Ramos says the CHP will have extra officers helping ease traffic pains on Saturday and Sunday,… Read More »

CHP watching traffic at Forestville School

If you drive by Forestville School on Highway 116, watch out for extra traffic and pedestrians. If you don’t, the CHP will be there to ensure you do. There’s construction starting at the school, and that’s changing how many students get to school. A sidewalk along 116 from Covey Road to the school will be closed, and that’s expected to mean more congestion in front of the school in the morning and afternoons. The CHP, starting Tuesday, plans to assign… Read More »

Mailbag: Hwy. 116 traffic light coming soon

Here’s a question from a Road Warrior reader: I wonder if you can get insight as to when the traffic lights are going to be activated at the intersection of Vine Hill at 116. As a resident and daily user of that stretch, it’s become even more perilous than before with the recent widening of the road, the various cones, etc. The lay of the road, the sun exposure makes crossing it even in former times tricky but I’ve seen… Read More »

Mailbag: Missing speed sign replaced

Here’s a question from a Road Warrior reader; I’m curious as to what happened to the 45 MPH speed limit signs on Mirabel Rd. in Forestville. From Hwy. 116 there used to be at least 2 45 MPH signs before the 35 MPH sign that is situated near the bottom of the hill just before Speers Market. That whole stretch of Mirabel has no speed limit signs at all on either side of the road. Valerie The answer comes from… Read More »
