Going to Tahoe? Or elsewhere to the snow? Then here’s some safety tips from CHP Officer Pete Mann of the Truckee office to help you avoid ending up like the driver in the photo: 1. Highway 12 closed at night in Napa County

Highway 12 through Jameson Canyon  in Napa County will be closed at night this week  to allow construction crews to do drainage/culvert work as part of widening the road. The highway will be closed 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Friday from Highway 29 and Red Top Road, weather permitting. Drivers should use Highway 37 instead of 12 to get to and from Interstate 80. Going to Tahoe? Take your chains

It’s Memorial Day weekend; the traditional start of summer vacations. But if you’re driving to Lake Tahoe, take your chains. Yes, be prepared for snow. The National Weather Service issued a weather alert Thursday warning that an unseasonably cold low pressure system is going to hit the Sierra on Friday and will produce snow showers through Saturday morning. I-80 reopens between Davis, Sacramento

  Interstate 80 at the Yolo Causeway is open again after being closed for about six hours because of a massive police search for a gunman who fired shots at a business in West Sacramento, carjacked a pickup, fired at pursuing police officers and crashed the stolen pickup on the causeway before fleeing.
