Trying to make sense out of getting around

Mailbag: Lobby for road repairs, triangles on the pavement and more

How can you draw attention to bad roads? What are those triangles showing up on Santa Rosa streets? And when will roadwork be done on Bloomfield Road? Here’s what has been on Road Warrior readers’ minds. Question: Mueller Rd. between Hwy. 116 and Graton Rd is desperately in need of a complete re-paving.  It’s beyond repair.  The same is true for Frei Rd. between Hwy. 116 and Guerneville Rd.  What do we have to do to draw attention to these two… Read More »

Group pushing for better roads netting headlines, success

It’s only about a year old, but the group Save Our Sonoma Roads is making headlines and scoring some success. Last Tuesday, the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors approved spending $6.5 million on repairs for 13.2 miles of roads — a feat that SOS Roads takes some credit for. Last Thursday, the Wall St. Journal published a story in its Bay Area edition on SOS’s campaign to get the county to spend more on road repairs. The article promptly was… Read More »

The worst road in Sonoma County is …

It’s only a mile long, but it’s narrow, cracked, sections of its sides are dropping away and it’s riddled with pothole patches with more potholes unfilled. It’s Keiser Avenue in Rohnert Park, and it’s the worst road in Sonoma County, according to readers who voted in the Road Warrior’s Third Annual Worst Road Contest. A total of 82 roads were singled out by readers as their worst, and although Keiser “won” this year, a drive around the county, particularly in… Read More »

It’s fine to list more than one, but only the first one named will be counted. Please vote only once. No ballot stuffing. Worst road in Sonoma County is …

This year’s worst road in Sonoma County is Lichau Road, a scenic, country route that winds up into the hills east of Rohnert Park. At least that’s the verdict of Road Warrior readers who responded to our second annual poll last month, voting for a total of 87 roads. Runner-ups were Spring Hill Road west of Petaluma, Sonoma Mountain Road between Bennett Valley and Glen Ellen and Frei Road north of Sebastopol. Lichau and Frei were runners-up in last year’s… Read More »

Worst road in Sonoma County is …

Last month, we asked readers to send us their vote for the worst road in Sonoma County. The winner — perhaps we should call it the loser — is Irwin Lane, a 1.6-mile, bucolic, rural road west of Santa Rosa, running from Highway 12 north to Hall Road. Next was Old Redwood Highway between Petaluma and Penngrove, Frei Road north of Sebastopol and Lichau Road east of Rohnert Park. Our survey was just informal, so you may know of even… Read More »
