Main Petaluma street partially closed for several days

NOTE: This report has been updated to reflect that the closure initially planned for Wednesday was delayed until Thursday. Petaluma’s main east-west street will be partially closed this week and next week because construction crews are replacing a water main. City officials said westbound East Washington Street will be blocked between Ellis and Payran streets Thursday, Friday, Monday and Tuesday. Eastbound lanes will remain open. If you’re driving in Petaluma, avoid going west on East Washington Street for the next four days. It’s a mess. A project replacing a water main on East Washington has forced the daytime closure of both westbound lanes and prompted a detour for westbound traffic: North on Payran Street, then west on Madison Street and south on Wilson Street, which takes you back to East Washington.
