A flurry of new road projects join those already underway in Sonoma County this week. Watch for state crews to start extensive projects on Highways 12 and 121 in the Carneros region, and county crews to start repaving the final unimproved stretch of Petaluma Hill Road between Petaluma and Cotati. Also this week, a few rural roads get long needed rehabs, and Porter Creek Road closes Wednesday night while bridge girders are delivered. Sonoma – State contractors will spend the next… Read More »

Caltrans has started two repair projects in Sonoma — on State Route 12 from Napa Road to the junction with State Route 121, and on State Route 121 near Schellville from State Route 37 to the Sonoma Creek Bridge (near the junction with State Route 116). This work will continue for the next few months while the contractor repairs the roadway, removes old pavement and repaves. Santa Rosa’s 25 dangerous intersections

Planning to drive through the intersection of Stony Point and Sebastopol roads in Santa Rosa? Better be careful. It again ranks No. 1 in the city for highest number of reported collisions. The Roseland-area intersection racked up 16 collisions last year, twice that of 2011 when it tied for sixth place but down from 20 in 2010 and 19 in 2009 when it ranked No. 1 for both years. 2011′s No. 1 — Highway 12 at Mission Boulevard — fell… Read More »

Sound Off: Buses, turn lights, frustrating red lights

Here’s a question from a reader: Can you get a ticket for straddling a solid white line on the offramp from the freeway? Millie The answer comes from CHP Officer Jon Sloat, who says, “By the LETTER of the law, you technically could be cited for straddling the white line on the shoulder. However, the average officer would only cite if it were a safety issue.” Here’s another question:  My commute often takes me eastbound on Old Adobe near Penngrove,… Read More »

As part of a weekly, Monday through Sunday, special enforcement program, Officer Jeff Adams says officers particularly will be looking for drivers not wearing seat belts, who are illegally using cellphones, are speeding, running red lights or committing lane violations. Each week, the officers pick… Read More »
