What’s that dirt mound in Hwy. 101 median in Petaluma?

Many readers have asked about the "earthen mound" that is rising in the center median on Highway 101 just south of the Petaluma River Bridge. According to Caltrans, the plan is to raise this section of Highway 101 by more than 20 feet.

Progress in The Narrows

There is visible progress being made on the Highway 101 improvement project between Lakeville Highway in Petaluma and Atherton Avenue in Novato, a 9.5-mile stretch, that will add frontage roads, widen bridges and improve three interchanges. As projects in The Narrows are completed, they will open, meaning motorists will notice incremental changes to the landscape rather than a grand opening of all the facilities at the end of the project. A few such pieces are already open.
