Trying to make sense out of getting around

Santa Rosa’s 25 dangerous intersections

Planning to drive through the intersection of Stony Point and Sebastopol roads in Santa Rosa? Better be careful. It again ranks No. 1 in the city for highest number of reported collisions. The Roseland-area intersection racked up 16 collisions last year, twice that of 2011 when it tied for sixth place but down from 20 in 2010 and 19 in 2009 when it ranked No. 1 for both years. 2011′s No. 1 — Highway 12 at Mission Boulevard — fell… Read More »

The left lane is marked for carpools but it is as if you are forced to turn… Read More »

Mailbag: Bicyclists, pedestrians getting tickets; Todd Road merging

Here are questions from Road Warrior readers: Adrienne wrote in to report that she had read on KRCB radio’s Facebook page an account of a Santa Rosa police officer stopping bicyclists on Humboldt Avenue for not coming to a complete stop at stop signs. According to the posting, the officer said he was instructed to use “maximum enforcement” in wake of the recent local deaths of bicyclists in accidents with cars. Our reader is wondering what’s going on. The answer… Read More »

Latest update on Highway 101, lane closures

For Highway 101 drivers, relief is almost here. Caltrans is continuing to do finishing work on the highway between Santa Rosa Avenue and Rohnert Park Expressway, and Caltrans spokesman Adam Priest says the third lane is expected to be open by the end of this month or early September. But he adds a caveat: “With that, these projects require scheduling of stripers, etc., during a very busy time for construction.” So it could be later. Once opened, the third lane… Read More »

More drivers trying to beat the red light

I’ve heard people joke that a green light means go, a yellow light means go faster and a red light means stop. But I don’t think it’s a joke any longer: More people seem to be trying to beat red lights and they’re stepping on the gas when the light turns yellow. Santa Rosa Police Sgt. Rich Celli says he hasn’t seen that as a general trend, although he does at times have officers stake out specific intersections where it’s… Read More »
