Mailbag: Stony Point speed limit? U-turns in front of schools?

Here’s a question from a reader: I’m wondering if you can clarify the speed limit on Stony Point Road between Rohnert Park Expressway and Petaluma Blvd. North. If you are heading south on Stony Point, just a bit after Rohnert Park Expressway, there is a sign that says “End 50 MPH.” There is not another speed limit sign posted heading south after that one sign.  To me, that means I can go 55 mph.  Is that right? If you are… Read More »

Did CHP, Caltrans do enough in 101 closure?

When two trucks collided during the morning commute a couple of weeks on Highway 101 in Cotati, northbound lanes were closed for hours, leaving many commuters fuming. Some Road Warrior readers wondered if the CHP and Caltrans could have done more to alleviate the massive congestion that the closure caused. “It would have been very helpful to start diverting traffic off in Petaluma or Penngrove. It was ridiculous that there were no CHP to direct traffic so it continued to… Read More »

Pumpkin Patch Crawl is back

The Pumpkin Patch Crawl is getting an early start on Highway 101. Every year for the last 18 years or so, Jim Groverman of Petaluma has created a pumpkin patch in north Petaluma between Stony Point Road and 101. Families by the hundreds, if not thousands, flock to his patch to find the right pumpkin for Halloween and to try to get through his corn maze. The patch doesn’t open until Friday, Sept. 30, but the patch already is causing… Read More »
