Traffic patrols at West Third and Stony Point

This week, Santa Rosa police are monitoring one of the city’s most collision-prone intersections, West Third Avenue at Stony Point Road, which  last year was tied for fourth place with 9 collisions. As part of a weekly Monday through Friday special enforcement program, Officer Jeff Adams says officers particularly will be looking for drivers not wearing seat belts, who are illegally using cellphones, are speeding, running red lights or committing lane violations. Each week, the officers pick one of the… Read More »

Santa Rosa’s 25 dangerous intersections

Planning to drive through the intersection of Stony Point and Sebastopol roads in Santa Rosa? Better be careful. It again ranks No. 1 in the city for highest number of reported collisions. The Roseland-area intersection racked up 16 collisions last year, twice that of 2011 when it tied for sixth place but down from 20 in 2010 and 19 in 2009 when it ranked No. 1 for both years. 2011′s No. 1 — Highway 12 at Mission Boulevard — fell… Read More »

Mailbag: More complaints about Santa Rosa intersections; Petaluma project

Our previous Mailbag column generated comments and questions from readers: From Tim: I have been doing a lot of driving in the Coddingtown area as of late and noticed an area of concern: Can you have someone look into the intersection of Cleveland Ave. & Guerneville Road? Specifically, going eastbound on Guerneville and turning north onto Cleveland the light stays green for LESS than 10 seconds. The dangerous part is most drivers are not aware of this, and I witnessed… Read More »

Mailbag: When will Stony Point Road be fixed? ‘Blind’ Bicentennial merge

Here’s a question from a reader: Can you tell me anything as to why Stony Point Road between Sebastopol Road and Hearn/Bellevue area is so thrashed and why little to no work is done on it? I’m also curious if you wouldn’t mind posting about a very troublesome intersection at Hearn and Stony Point where motorists seem unfamiliar with the responsibilities of yielding to ALL traffic when turning left at a solid green light. I think the people need re-education.… Read More »

County lists roads to be repaired, repaved in spring, summer

About 50 miles of Sonoma County-maintained roads are on track to get some type of major repairs next spring and summer. One example is Old Redwood Highway from Petaluma to Cotati. Here’s the full list from the county roads department and what work will… Read More »

Mailbag: Stony Point speed limit? U-turns in front of schools?

Here’s a question from a reader: I’m wondering if you can clarify the speed limit on Stony Point Road between Rohnert Park Expressway and Petaluma Blvd. North. If you are heading south on Stony Point, just a bit after Rohnert Park Expressway, there is a sign that says “End 50 MPH.” There is not another speed limit sign posted heading south after that one sign.  To me, that means I can go 55 mph.  Is that right? If you are… Read More »
