Roads Report: Porter Creek, Petaluma Hill, Carneros and Mendocino updates

A flurry of new road projects join those already underway in Sonoma County this week. Watch for state crews to start extensive projects on Highways 12 and 121 in the Carneros region, and county crews to start repaving the final unimproved stretch of Petaluma Hill Road between Petaluma and Cotati. Roads Report: Sonoma work begins and this week’s county projects

Caltrans has started two repair projects in Sonoma — on State Route 12 from Napa Road to the junction with State Route 121, and on State Route 121 near Schellville from State Route 37 to the Sonoma Creek Bridge (near the junction with State Route 116). This work will continue for the next few months while the contractor repairs the roadway, removes old pavement and repaves. Porter Creek delays, and other county road reports

If you plan to cross the Mayacamas this week, plan your route carefully, suggests reader Brian Maloney. A bridge replacement project on Porter Creek road is creating quite a snarl. Another project destined to irritate commuters is ramping up on Arnold Drive and Aqua Caliente, but is still in the early stages. Traffic patrols at West Third and Stony Point

This week, Santa Rosa police are monitoring one of the city’s most collision-prone intersections, West Third Avenue at Stony Point Road, which  last year was tied for fourth place with 9 collisions. As part of a weekly Monday through Friday special enforcement program, Officer Jeff Adams says officers particularly will be looking for drivers not wearing seat belts, who are illegally using cellphones, are speeding, running red lights or committing lane violations.
