101 construction begins at Airport Blvd. and Petaluma closure

Here’s what you need to know about the Airport Boulevard interchange construction at Highway 101 that begins tonight: Crews will begin construction at 7 p.m. June 3, working 7 p.m.-6 a.m. Monday through Saturday for several weeks. The first phase involves building new on- and off-ramps  at the Airport Boulevard interchange north of Santa Rosa, and replacing the current two-lane overcrossing with a new five-land bridge. After nearly a decade of planning, construction begins Monday, June 3, on the expanded and redesigned freeway interchange at Airport Boulevard, north of Santa Rosa. Expect construction detours to begin Monday, as the northbound loop off-ramp at Airport Boulevard is permanently closed. Traffic will be detoured to the Fulton Road off-ramp. A happy ending at Airport Blvd.

Whose responsibility is it to maintain the landscaping around highway parcels? Sometimes it’s hard to tell. Steve Mosher wrote in to ask about a lot near the Airport Boulevard freeway exchange that was so full of weeds he could barely walk past them on the sidewalk. U.S. 101 questions and a suggestion

Two little questions about things spotted along U.S. 101, and a suggestion about how to ease the pain as construction projects collide in Petaluma. What’s up with the sign? The question: What is with the electronic sign in Rohnert Park on NB 101 that states to turn Radio to 840 AM? It was on for a week, no message is on 840 AM. Real construction work won’t begin until June 3 on the new Airport Boulevard interchange off Highway 101 north of Santa Rosa, but Caltrans has released images of the design and the proposed detours.
