If you drive a big-rig truck or tow a camper or boat across any of the Bay Area bridges, be prepared to pay more in tolls — a lot more.
Starting July 1, tolls for vehicles or towing combinations with three or more axles will pay $5 an axle for crossing any of the seven state-owned toll bridges and $6 an axle to cross the Golden Gate Bridge.
So to use the Antioch, Benicia-Martinez, Carquinez, Dumbarton, Richmond-San Rafael, San Francisco-Oakland Bay and San Mateo-Hayward bridges, the tolls will be:
–3 axles: Now $10.50; as of July 1, $15
— 4 axles: Now $14; as of July 1, $20
–5 axles: Now $18; as of July 1, $25
–6 axles: Now $21; as of July 1, $30
–7 or more axles: Now $24.25; as of July 1, $35
For the Golden Gate Bridge, the tolls will be:
–3 axles: Now $13; as of July 1, $18
–4 axles: Now $18; as of July 1, $24
–5 axles: Now $22; as of July 1, $30
–6 axles: Now $27; as of July 1, $36
–7 or more axles: Now $31; as of July 1, $42
However, if you use FasTrak on the Golden Gate, you’ll get $1 off per axle.
The Bay Area Toll Authority raised the tolls on the state-owned bridges to help finance earthquake retrofits of the Antioch and Dumbarton bridges, to cover higher debt financing and to make up for a drop in revenue resulting from fewer people using the bridges since the recession hit.
