Santa Rosa police this coming week will monitor one of the city’s most collision-prone intersections — Mendocino Avenue at Pacific Avenue, near SRJC, which  last year was tied for third with 10 collisions.

As part of a weekly, Monday through Friday, special enforcement program, Officer Jeff Adams says officers particularly will be looking for drivers not wearing seat belts, who are illegally using cellphones, are speeding, running red lights or committing lane violations.

Each week, the officers pick one of the city’s top 25 collision-troubled intersections to monitor.

How about looking at left turn-right of way violations. I am nearly hit EVERY DAY entering and leaving SRJC from Pacific.

The city needs to change the Pacific lane designation at that intersection. Keep the left turning lane as only left and change the right turn lane into a straight (and right) lane. It’s a mess waiting behind all the people making a left, for the SRHS, in the morning. Sometimes you wait 3-4 lights before getting straight across Mendocino.

Make crossing all at once. All directions. Red lites for all vehicles. Cross all directions as they do in the financial district in SF. All pededstrians cross on red lights in all directions. Then no crossing at all while green lites are on in all directions.
