A friend was complaining the other day about getting a ticket from a CHP officer for not having a front license plate. He said he’s seen dozens of cars without front license plates since– what gives?
CHP Officer Jon Sloat said state law requires that for California-registered vehicles, both license plates be used, with the front one on the bumper, not in a window.
Enforcement is up to the discretion of the officer, but Sloat acknowledged that ticketing drivers for missing a front plate is not a top priority.
So if you get ticketed, it just wasn’t your day.
