If you live or work near 101 in Rohnert Park or Cotati, you might want to get some ear plugs.

Starting at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Caltrans is to begin driving piles at 101 and 116 in Cotati. It already has started at 101 and Golf Course Drive in Rohnert Park. The work will go 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday for the next three to four weeks at both sites.

The work is the first step in building new overpasses for 101 at each spot. The existing overpass at 116 is being rebuilt and a new one will take shape at Golf Course Drive, which will connect with Wilfred Avenue when the entire 101 widening project is finished in a couple of years.

Caltrans spokesman Robert Haus said Caltrans expects to get noise complaints from Rohnert Park and Cotati residents and is apologizing in advance.

“We understand it, but there’s no way around it,” he said of the noisy work.
