Tired of the rough ride on 101 between Santa Rosa and Windsor? There’s light at the end of the tunnel.

The final repaving work is scheduled to start Monday, May 24, and will last into September, Caltrans spokesman Bob Haus says.

Crews first will put down a layer of rubberized asphalt, containing 7 percent ground-up, recycled tires, which will help absorb traffic noise and lasts longer. The top layer will be open-graded asphalt with a kind of sponge-like look, which also allows it to absorb noise and allows rain to drain off rather than pool up.

The work, which will be done at night, will require two lanes to be closed along the stretches being paved.

Come September, it’ll be a smooth ride — at last.
