If you drive to San Francisco in a car pool, be prepared to pay more.

The board for the Golden Gate Bridge District voted Friday to charge vehicles with three or more people $3 to cross the bridge during commute hours starting July 1, according to the Associated Press.

Car pools and motorcycles now are free, except on holidays.

The $3 toll is half what vehicles with two or fewer people pay, but car pools and motorcycles only will be eligible for the lower price if they have a FastTrak electronic payment transponder.

The move puts Golden Gate car pool fares on par with the Bay Area’s seven state-owned bridges. Car poolers also are going to have to start paying tolls on those bridges come July 1.
