Fifty-six people were arrested on suspicion of drunken driving over the Memorial Day weekend as part of a crackdown by police throughout Sonoma County.

Of the 56, three were arrested at a DUI/driver’s license checkpoint Friday night in Cotati. Seven other people were arrested at the checkpoint on suspicion of driving on a suspended license, four on charges of driving without every having a license, three on warrants and one on possession of illegal drugs. A total of 3,104 drivers were screened for violations.

Petaluma Police Sgt. Ken Savano, who coordinates the countywide Avoid the 13 Task Force, said no fatal DUI crashes were reported during the four-day police crackdown, but seven people were injured in five crashes blamed on drunken driving. Details on the crashes were unavailable.
