A $1.2 million project to chip seal 12 miles of Highway 29 in Lake County is scheduled to start next week after about a three-week delay caused by a national shortage of paint for road stripes.

Caltrans engineer Oungkar Narine said the work will begin Monday with removal of crosswalk and stop lines in Middletown. That work is set for 7 p.m. to 4 a.m. Monday and Tuesday.

Then chip sealing of the highway is to start Aug. 3 and is expected to take six nights, again 7 p.m. to 4 a.m., beginning at the Lake County-Napa County line and eventually ending at Coyote Creek Bridge in Hidden Valley. Originally, the work was expected to be done during the day as well, but Narine said he doesn’t think that will be the case anymore.

After Highway 29 is chip sealed, he said chip sealing of Highway 175 from Cobb to Middletown is to begin.
