The DMV is experiencing a few “kinks” in issuing its spiffy newly designed driver’s licenses and doesn’t expect to work them out for a couple of months, a spokesman says.

The DMV’s Mike Marando in Sacramento said a switch to a new processing system to handle the new licenses has meant it’s taking about 30 days to mail out a new license compared to the usual two to three weeks.

As a result, he said, the DMV is issuing temporary licenses good for up to 60 days for Californians getting their first license or a renewal.

Road Warrior readers, however, have reported much longer waits than the 30 days.

So if you haven’t received your license and it’s getting close to the end of your temporary license, call the DMV.

The DMV issues about 8 million licenses a year.
