Here’s a question from a Cotati readers regarding the Highway 101 widening project:

QUESTION: I live adjacent to 101 in Cotati, and endured a lot of noise and vibration from the highway improvements this last year.
I was wondering why it is that with all the money being spent, nobody is able to have a webpage dedicated to keeping the public updated on the work being done currently and scheduled for the future. It would be nice to be able to view something like that and know when you’re going to have interrupted sleep from paving operations (beeping) and compactors (vibration).
I would also like to know when they are planning to construct the sound walls from 116 South to School Street. A long time ago during the public hearings, I was told that the walls would go in first so the construction noise to the homes would be reduced. But, it didn’t happen in that order, and now I’m wondering if I’ll ever get them.
Thanks,
Dennis

ANSWER, from Caltrans spokesman Robert Haus:

Couple of things: First, we do have a web site for the Central Project:

http://www.dot.ca.gov/dist4/101centralproject/

I’m working with the construction staff to keep it updated as much as I can. Also, I’m still updating the Twitter page as regularly as I can.

Construction on the soundwalls is scheduled to begin in spring of the year.
