Here’s a traffic arrest from the CHP filed under “It’s the little things that get you caught”:

CHP Officer Jonathan Todd was patrolling Highway 101 on Monday in downtown Santa Rosa when he spotted a motorcycle with a torn or altered 2011 registration sticker. A check on the license plate showed it expired as of last November, so he stopped the biker, a 36-year-old Forestville man.

The CHP says the man blamed a friend for borrowing his Harley and putting false registration tags on it. But a DMV check found that the man’s driver license had been suspended, he didn’t have a motorcycle endorsement on his license and he had a warrant for displaying false registration.

Oops. His next ride was to jail.

The stealing of license plate tags is quite common — many people try to deter the theft by slashing the stickers with a knife, making it hard to peel off all of a sticker.
