Question from a Road Warrior reader:

On Arnold Drive in Sonoma near Juanita Juanita’s Restaurant, there’s a posted speed sign of “Ending 50” or something to the effect that 50 mph is now ending (ahem). Well, you’re left trying to figure out what speed you’re supposed to be driving at now because there’s nothing posted for quite a while. I’m not exaggerating either, one is left not sure to drop down to 25 or 40. I couldn’t find this in the California Driver Handbook from DMV either.
Thank you, Michael

Answer:

CHP Officer Steven Fricke says the sign means you can go as fast as 55 mph.

He says the speed limit on two-lane, undivided roads in the county is 55 mph if there are no speed limit signs, although drivers must slow on curves and other places where 55 is unsafe.
