Think there’s a lot of cars and trucks on the road in Sonoma County? You’re right.

As of Dec. 31, 306,556 cars were registered in Sonoma County, according to the DMV. There also were 107,071 commercial vehicles — from pickups to big rigs — and 17,066 motorcycles, for a total of 430,693.

The 2010 Census put the county’s population at 483,878.

Both Mendocino and Lake counties had more vehicles than people.

For Mendocino, 55,569 cars were registered as were 31,526 commercial vehicles and 3,790 motorcycles for a total of 90,885.

Mendocino’s population in the census was 87,841.

For Lake, 43,286 cars were registered as were 21,376 commercial vehicles and 2,961 motorcycles for a total of 67,023.

Lake’s population was 64,665.

Statewide, there were 22,040,779 cars registered, 5,711,052 commercial vehicles and 808,913 motorcycles for a total of 28,560,744.

The state’s population was 37,252,956.

How many hybrids? The DMV doesn’t break that down by county, but statewide there were 395,483.
